A number of coaches have reached out about professional development opportunities this summer for high school speech and debate educators. We believe that our experience with the UTNIF Online will be a valuable resource for coaches from across Texas and the country.
We are excited to offer professional development opportunities for coaches highlighting best practices for speech and debate, with our focus on online instruction. With additional information on class instruction, team management, tournament preparation, coaching at online tournaments, judging at online tournaments and tips for hosting your own tournament online.
In addition to content and activities created for this program, participants in the coaches clinic will get hands on experience making the transition from traditional coaching functions to the online setting. This program is designed for those with prior professional experience coaching speech and debate who are seeking reassurance and confidence as they navigate uncertainty in our field.
This program will utilize our distance learning resources at the University of Texas, including Canvas and UTZoom. It includes both asynchronous content and activities, as well as regular synchronous meetings, discussions and observations with our Program Coordinator (Eric Lanning) and our Director of Speech (Randy Cox) or Director of Debate (Brendon Bankey) as appropriate.
6/24 – 7/8 Speech and Individual Events Coaches Clinic
7/9 – 7/23 Debate Coaches Clinic
The program cost is ($500) per session.
This includes a ($250) deposit at registration.
If you’re interested in joining us this summer and would like to register or have any questions – please reach out directly to our Program Coordinator, Eric Lanning
